Cardiff Children Benefit from Community Funding

Children from 52 schools in Cardiff have been able to attend the Safety Zone at Treforest thanks to funding from the St. David's Partnership, the developer behind Wales' St David's 2 development.

The Crucial Crew, a Cardiff Council community project, set up to educate children about the dangers they may face when out and about, was awarded £1000 by St. David's Partnership. This funding was put towards hosting a two week programme at the Safety Zone where schools from across Cardiff were able book a space and take groups of year six pupils for half day visits.

There are more than 10 different every day scenarios set up with different organisations providing safety advice, everything from a construction site and Red Cross to the RNLI and Trading Standards.

St David's Partnership's Community Fund grants aim to put something back into the local community, with more than £20,000 granted since the initiative began two years ago.

Norman White, Project Manager at St David's Partnership said: 'We continue to invest heavily in local communities throughout South Wales for the past two years we have helped more than 10 community groups with a variety of projects. When the Crucial Crew came to us asking for funding to help run the two week programme we jumped at the opportunity to help young people learn more about the dangers they face.'

Julie Lipsombe, part of the trading standards team at Cardiff Council said: 'Spaces filled up immediately as schools are very keen to participate in the programme. We are very grateful for the funding provided by St. David's Partnership, it is only thanks to sponsors like St. David's that we are able to run the scheme and ensure children are ready to enter the real life and remain safe.'
