SHOPPERS IN WALES DIG DEEP FOR CHARITY
Published: Monday, 24 January, 2011
Thanks to the generosity of visitors to St David’s, charities including The Salvation Army, Tenovus and the centre’s adopted charity, Marie Curie, were able to generate much needed funds for their causes and to raise awareness amongst shoppers about the positive work that is undertaken each and every year across Wales.
Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society, Cardiff Men’s Choir, Ogmore Valley Silver Band, Mynydd Islwyn Choir, The Salvation Army and Cardiff University Brass Brand Society were all among those invited to perform in St David’s during the centre’s busiest period. Meanwhile shoppers were invited to enjoy a host of musical entertainment and to contribute towards fundraising efforts.
Steven Madeley, centre director for St David’s, said: “Each year our customers are invited to support local charities and community groups by making voluntary contributions. We are continually delighted with the generosity of shoppers and this year has been no exception. We are confident that the money raised will be put to great use by each of the organisations which fundraised and entertained our visitors over the Christmas period”.
Karen Jones, fundraising manager at the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth said, ‘ We are so grateful to everyone who gave so generously to us in St David’s before Christmas and look forward to more fundraising when we hold our annual ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’ there on 24th,25th and 26th February.
“We will also be holding awareness days, where people can find out more about the work that Marie Curie Cancer Care does, both at the hospice and in patients own homes across Wales. We are pleased that we have been chosen by St David’s and look forward to further opportunities like this throughout 2011”.
