ST DAVIDS GETS SET TO HOST EXCLUSIVE STUDENT LOCK-IN
Published: Thursday, 03 February, 2011

Taking place on 8th February, the event will involve more than seventy stores opening their doors later into the evening and offering the city’s students a range of one-night-only discounts.
The first Student Lock-In was held in October last year and attracted more than 7,000 students, who lined the streets to gain access to the exclusive discounts available on the night. Stores reported taking half a day’s takings within the first half an hour of the event.
At February’s event, students will be provided with special identification cards, allowing them entry into stores throughout St David’s and inviting them to enjoy a host of entertainment during the course of the evening. In addition students can participate in one-off competitions, receive makeovers in store and will walk away from the event with free samples and goody bags from selected stores.
Brands including H&M, Cult, New Look, Nike, Quicksilver, Jack Jones, David & Goliath, Fenchurch, Folli Follie, Ollie & Nic and Benefit and Mac at Debenhams will be offering exclusive discounts of up to 20% off whilst Nando’s, Sale Pepe and Bellini’s are among those restaurants in the Eastside restaurant area of St David’s which will be giving special offers and running competitions for students.
Competitions will include the chance to win free mobile phones from 3 Store, whilst there will be a series of live DJ sets, entertainment from indoor climbing centre Boulders and access to refreshments from local bars including Tiger Tiger and Buffalo Bar.
Steven Madeley, centre director for St David’s, said: “After the overwhelming success of our student lock-in last year, we were keen to replicate the event on an even larger scale. With access to an additional 20 stores than last year, as well as the opportunity to receive some big discounts and enjoy some in-store entertainment, this year’s event is set to be an even bigger success. We are also going to be staying open even later to give students a chance to shop for longer.”
The Student Lock-In event is open to students from all universities and colleges, possessing valid student identification.
Mr Madeley continued: “Students are one of the key target markets for a number of stores and retailers in St David’s. As a result, a lock-in event is the ideal opportunity for us to cater directly to their needs, to provide this group with special offers and discounts and to give them exclusive access to their favourite stores.”
The student lock-in will be held at St David’s Cardiff on Tuesday, February 8th, from 8:30pm – 11:30pm, in association with student events company Total Students. Students will be asked to register on The Hayes, outside Crabtree and Evelyn, by showing a valid student ID card, whilst VIP student lock-in ticket holders will be invited to queue from the earlier time of 8:15pm and gain access to the event’s official after-party at nightclub venue Glam.
Upon registration students will be directed throughout the centre and to participating stores. For more information, visit www.stdavidscardiff.com or search St David’s / Dewi Sant on Facebook.
