A Caerleon teenage singer will be performing in front of St David’s shoppers after launching a new single.
Seventeen-year-old Demi Holborn will be performing on the ‘Christmas on The Hayes’ stage at St David’s in Cardiff city centre to raise money for St Anne’s Hospice in Newport on Tuesday 24 November from 6–8pm.
Demi has also just released a download-only single with Blackburn Cathedral Choir to raise money towards a £1m Cathedral Appeal. The double A-side features the popular songs ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Demi hit the headlines when she was nine years old after winning a talent contest on GMTV. Her song ‘I’d Like To Teach the World to Sing’ reached number 27 in the UK charts.
Steven Madeley, centre director for St David’s, Cardiff, said: “The ‘Christmas on The Hayes’ stage was not only designed to become a focal point in the city and entertain shoppers in the run up to Christmas, but also to benefit a wide variety of charitable causes throughout South Wales.
“We are sure that late-night shoppers at St David’s will give Demi a warm welcome tonight (Tuesday) and support her efforts to raise money for St Anne’s Hospice.”
Demi said: “St Anne’s Hospice is a fantastic charity that helps to improve the quality of life for those with life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, while supporting their families at the same time. No one knows when they may be affected. Relatives have been affected by cancer on both my father and mother’s side of the family and it is wonderful for me to help a charity that provides such an exceptional service as St Anne’s.
“Christmas is a superb time and I was delighted to be invited to sing in aid of St Anne’s Hospice on the outdoor stage at St David’s on The Hayes, Cardiff. Last year I spent a day with the charity alongside their Santa’s Grotto. It was such a lovely day. The children’s faces when visiting Santa was enough to brighten up anyone s day. I look forward to being there again this year.”
Terry Woodsford of St Anne’s Hospice added: “Demi has been connected with St Anne’s Hospice for nearly three years, since we first saw her performing in Newport. We approached her to sing for us at one of our functions and she has been a firm favourite and ardent supporter ever since. She has a big voice which matches her big heart, Demi is passionate about helping good causes and putting something back into her local community
“We were over the moon when offered the opportunity to put on a concert on the St David’s ‘Christmas on The Hayes’ stage in aid of St Anne’s. Demi was an automatic choice to support us, we hope lots of people take the opportunity to see and hear Demi, a young lady who is destined for greater things with her career.”
Demi will be performing on The Hayes Stage, outside St David’s, on Tuesday November 24, between 6pm-8pm.
