St David's Brings New Restaurant Destination to Cardiff

Published: Monday, 17 August, 2009

The dedicated restaurant quarter within the new St David's, Eastside, will be home to a number of restaurants and cafes that are new to Wales' capital city.

Pizza Express, Chimichangas, Nandos, BB's and Muffin Break are the latest restaurants to take space in St David's Eastside. The catering offering at the £675 million shopping centre will bring contemporary city eating together under one lively and vibrant covered street in the heart of Cardiff.

When the Centre opens on 22 October, the Eastside catering area will offer 18 restaurants in 60,000 sq ft, over two floors. Upper Eastside will provide a late night under-cover alfresco dining area. Chimichangas will bring its Tex Mex food to Wales for the first time and St David's will host Pizza Express' and Nando's third restaurants in the Capital.

These new names will join other restaurants at Eastside including American diners and Oriental cuisine. Lower Eastside will have a continental feel with a covered streetscape with bars and cafe's such as Starbucks, BB's and Muffin Break.

The internal dining streetscape will be open 18 hours a day, so both shoppers and diners can enjoy themselves at St David's long after the stores close. Eastside will be directly linked to the existing CineWorld from the popular Hayes area. Twenty four hour parking will be available in the new 2,000 space roof top multi story car park.

Demand for cafe and restaurant space within St David's has been exceptional with virtually all the catering space now either leased or at advanced stages of negotiation ahead of opening. Coffee Shop operators Starbucks and Costa Coffee will also provide 'pitstops' within the scheme. The Eastside restaurants and coffee shops will join new restaurants Jamie's Italian, Wagamama and Gourmet Burger Kitchen on the Hayes.

The Hayes has benefited from new restaurants and the award winning state of art Central Library; and will be further enhanced with new landscaping and environmental improvements, and modern public space at Bridge Square.

Joanne Skilton, of Capital Shopping Centres (CSC) said, on behalf of the St David's Partnership, the joint venture between and Land Securities and CSC, 'St David's will provide Cardiff with a restaurant destination befitting one of European's brightest capital cities. Eastside will be a destination in its own right for those seeking quality food in a stylish environment.'

St David's shopping Centre, in the heart of Cardiff, will comprise 967,500 sq ft (89,880 sq m) of brand new shopping space, in addition to the existing 427,000 sq ft (39,670 sq m). 64% of the new space has been let or is on solicitor's hands.

Letting agents for St David's are E J Hales, Lunson Mitchenall and Cushman & Wakefield.
