Beat the January Blues

Mon 27 Jan 2014 - posted by Kelly Allen

January always feels like the longest month of the year. With pay day usually ahead of Christmas, it can feel like several months before we're spending again without a furrowed brow. However, thanks to some fantastic stores within St David’s, families can still enjoy the pleasures of life (mainly having food cooked by someone else and not having to worry about the washing up!). A niggling worry as a parent in St David’s is that you with have to splash out on the kids when surrounded by restaurants and toy filled shops.. However I have a few suggestions to help you budget this January -

When it comes to eating out, I think one of the best places to take children is Nando’s. If your budget is tight, you can spread a whole chicken platter between two adults and two children easily and it comes to less than £20, including re-fillable drinks. Another great place is Spudulike where they sell the biggest baked pots I have EVER seen in my whole life, so you could always share with your little one to cut costs… Trust me, you’ll be stuffed!

When it comes to giving a treat to the little ones in your life, I would definitely suggest Cadwaladers. You can get a bear cone ice-cream for just £1! Or, if you would like to pacify the journey home, located near the lifts you will find an array of sweeties from 20p a serving- these are a great way to encourage children to be super good whilst you all shop and in return they get a little treat for on the way home. My children love our trips into St David’s just because of this little treat that to them means oh-so-much.

If sweet treats aren’t your thing, then head on over to Hamleys for FREE in store entertainment. They have several areas set up just for the children and the big kids (yes, you!) to test out toys and there is a special colouring in station for the more creative folk. When it comes to boys toys they currently have remote control cars in the sale (from £10) and if dolls are the way to your little one’s heart then the Disney store has it all going on with gorgeous character dolls from £8.

All in all, with January sales galore as well as all the usual special and affordable treats within St David’s, what better way to spend your days together as a family than a day trip to the centre?

So… what are you waiting for?!
