Here's to a Healthy New Year!

Fri 29 Jan 2016 - posted by Kelly Allen

January often comes with that melancholy feeling of wanting to remain comforted by all those tempting foods but also the need to start a fresh healthy year, and most importantly set a good example for the children.

This year has started off with some great healthy treats in the food department and I have to admit, it's refreshing to try some new and alternative foods that don't leave you with hunger pains! We're quite big on soup so it's wonderful news to hear that Pret A Manger has added nine (yes, nine!) new soup options to its range.

The selection is vast, ranging from “No Cream” Cream of Chicken soup (this is only 140 calories and the combination of celery, cauliflower and chicken stock certainly makes up for the lack of cream!) to Coconut Chicken Curry Soup whilst also providing a yummy Souper Tomato Soup for fans of the plum tomato.

This means their range of flavours will go from three options to an amazing nine options of soup. For me the key to soup success is the fact that it's healthy (the most calories in their new range is 248) and it's also really comforting, which tricks your body into believing you haven't miraculously turned into a rabbit overnight!

Pret also offer a range of cold healthy options and my children are big on their super fruit pots, they barely last two minutes in the hands of George and Molly. It's great seeing foodie places offer such a vast array of healthy foods, that appeal to adults and children alike.

Another place offering healthier options is trusty M&S. Their food range, just like Pret, is always top quality and really hits the spot. They provided us with a few snacks to try out and we were in healthy snack heaven.

The children's favourite was the berry mix pack, again like the fruit in Pret, it was demolished by the kiddies. For the adults, well we absolutely adored the Green Chilli, Lime and Coriander Pea Snaps. They are spicy in a warm way and they totally fill you up, you don't get the 'I need a second packet' feeling from a normal packet of crisps.

So there you have it, a healthy start is the way to go and with Pret and M&S all under one roof at St David's, you and your children will be spoilt for choice!
