Mmmondays by St David's

Okay, okay… I admit it. As a mother to two beautiful but crazy kids, I avoid eating out quite regularly. I know, I know… I should enjoy going out as a family, and in theory it should be enjoyable; I don’t have to shop for the key ingredients, spend hours preparing and cooking it, serve it or even worry about cleaning up. BUT… the reality of eating out normally entails  my husband and I pulling our hair out as we chase after our restless kiddies, scooping them up when they go running into a table top without looking and finally despairing about the food they wanted but do not want once it arrives and they end up eating ours instead.

So when Mmmondays by St David’s came along, I admit I felt a little apprehensive. With such amazing food discounts and deals spreading the array of family friendly eateries, we would have been silly not to try it out. It was time to bite the bullet and attempt a calm lunch out as a family, and what better place to head than Bellini’s? Tucked away on the lower level of St David’s this gorgeous Italian restaurant is full to the brim with friendly staff and delicious foody smells- my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Armed with our Mmmonday’s promotional card, we were greeted with friendly grins and seated perfectly near to the bathroom (We felt well prepared for the “I need a WEE WEE!!!!” chant). We were handed our menus and pleasantly surprised to find that kids eat for FREE at Bellini’s!!!! Let me tell you, this rocked my world. On top of this delight, our seating area allowed for entertainment galore when the kiddies started to fidget. I was able to distract them with two things: 1. there are slanted mirrors that allow you to see the hustle and bustle of St David’s as people milled around doing their shopping, and 2. we could see the food being cooked from fresh. This made me, oops I mean the kiddies, entranced… and it really did make time fly.

When it came to the food and drink, I have one word: YUM!I thought that their choice of drinks for children was also spot on, not just fizzy drinks, but also quite unusually pineapple juice, which lasted about two seconds! When the food arrived we were awestruck. It was gorgeous. George, who is nearly 4, ordered lasagne, 2 year old Molly had a pizza fit for a King (and ate most of it!), my husband had a chicken burger with fries and I had my all-time favourite carbonara.  The food looked and tasted stunning, and we all tried each other’s, with the pizza coming top of the tastiest list. Included in the kid’s meal was ice cream, and they loved it. It was just the right portion size after they had eaten a substantial lunch, and we even caused a bit of drama when Molly smashed her glass on the floor! What happened? The staff handled it amazingly, they were so sweet with her and it was cleared away in an instant. We were even given a mystery envelope on the way out with a 2 for 1 meal promotion- what better excuse to pop back with my husband and enjoy the experience of Bellini’s once more…

After lunch we had a spot of shopping to do, or should I say we were being pulled from toy shop to toy shop… but this was helped all the more by the fuzzy feeling of Bellini’s beautiful Italian cuisine sitting nicely in our tummies!

So, I guess we are a reformed family who want to eat out more now… and what better place to do it than on Mmmondays by St David’s?
