Winter Warmers

Mon 19 Jan 2015 - posted by Kelly Allen

So, it seems snow is upon us in January??! Well, it’s better late than never! I cannot believe how cold it is, the school run is almost painful with frost-bitten noses and icy pavements. I have a feeling it may continue and if it does we need to be prepared! I love nothing more than seeing the kids all bundled up in layers of cosy knitwear, bobble hats, earmuffs and mittens. They make me wish for snow when they are all dressed up and ready to face the bitter cold.

As always, H&M have the bold and the beautiful in their collection of winter classics. My favourite piece has to be the padded gillet, which comes in both yellow and navy (now reduced to £2.99). These are perfect for kids on the go and mini-adventurers because they remain nice and toasty but their arms and hands are free for exploring! I know my two little ones love wearing their gillets, teamed with jumpers and jeans, winter boots and woolly hats.

My favourite accessory has to be John Lewis’s sausage dog scarf- it is incredibly cute and would go perfectly with their knit-trapper hat in blue and red. The pompom and tassels on this hat are simply adorable, the bonus being they will keep tiny ears warmer on those chilly days. John Lewis also stock magic gloves for a snip at £7.00 for two pairs,  perfect if you have two little ones or one forgetful kiddies under your roof. H&M provide the more snow-friendly option of winter mittens in a gorgeous blue and white polka-dot.

Apart from all of the outerwear available at both stores, I am totally in love with the chunky knitwear on offer from John Lewis, especially the crewneck cable knit jumper in burgundy red. Whenever I see items like this I imagine my little ones returning home after a blustery afternoon in the snow and sitting in front of the fire all snuggled together and warm, oh so warm and cosy!

The only thing I haven’t mentioned is the absolute need for cords during the wintry months… If your kids don’t own a pair of cords then head to H&M and buy a pair- they are a great investment and a must for any part of childhood that is spent outdoors kicking leaves and building snowmen..! If you want to be super prepared then you could choose to opt for H&M’s shell pants (£14.99) which will keep even the most adventurous child dry and warm during these bitter weeks ahead.

So, once you’re prepared for the outdoors, there’s only one thing left to do- go and build a snowman!!!
