Cardiff shoe shop, A. G. Meek, has been recognised at the 11th Cardiff Business Awards, winning family business of the year for 2025. The judges highlighted the brand’s sustainable growth, long-term vision and ongoing contribution to the local economy, marking an important moment for one of Cardiff’s longest-standing independent businesses.
The awards, created to showcase exceptional organisations across Wales’ capital, were hosted by broadcaster Lucy Owen at the Holland House Hotel Cardiff. The ceremony brought together remarkable companies and individuals from across the city, each demonstrating outstanding standards of business achievement.
A. G. Meek has a deep-rooted history in Cardiff, beginning with Albert George Meek’s first shoe shop in 1912 and a second location in the city centre in 1920. The business has been part of St Davids since the centre opened in 1981 and continues to be one of the few independent retailers trading there today. Now run by Albert’s grandson, David Meek, the store remains committed to high quality branded footwear, excellent customer service and strong connections within the local community. David Meek said the team is delighted to be recognised by the business community for its long-standing commitment to the city.
The Cardiff Business Awards is organised by Grapevine Event Management and supported by headline sponsor Go.Compare along with a wide range of partners who champion the achievements of Cardiff’s thriving business landscape.
